Attendance was about 300 on this cool, windy, overcast day. The threat of rain may have cut into the crowd size. The theme today was Multicultural Day but there were no special entertainers this year.
The Lynx director of operations said someone told him the Lady Voltage coach Scott Mosher said to his players “break their legs and run right through them”. This may have carried over from the Lady Lynx winning last week in Vermont also by a 3-0 score. Today was a rough game with referee David Barrie giving cautions at 78 minutes to both VLV forward Nadege Akamse and LL defender Kayla Afonso who’d been jostling most of the second half.
Elise Kuhar-Pitters earned the shutout for the Lady Lynx without really having much to do in the game. Lady Lynx held a wide margin of shots. They could have been into double figures if the VLV defenders hadn’t been so good at blocking shots.
Kuhar-Pitters is now the third goalie on the team to earn a shutout in their four games this season. Aurelea Gumiela has two shutouts and Krista Pace has one. The team hasn’t allowed a goal in their four games this year and has a 4-0-0 record. Kuhar-Pitters is from Spokane Washington. The only other Lady Lynx international this season is defender-midfielder Julia Bazi from Australia.
Both teams subbed three players at halftime.
Next home game for the Lady Lynx is Sunday June 22nd against the division titlists for the last four years, Ottawa Fury at the Varsity Centre at 4:00pm. The theme will be Mascot Day. Today the Lynxster didn’t make an appearance until the men’s game played right after this. The reason I heard was he was “still in the dryer”.
