The Lady Vermont Voltage faced a tough team tonight and unfortunately finished the game on the wrong side of the score. Despite equal play throughout the game, the Toronto Lady Lynx eventually pulled out the 3-0 win over the Voltage women.

Although, “The score did not indicate the play on the field,” stated head coach Scott Mosher. “We played much better tonight than previous games and were the better team in the first half.”

Stand-outs for tonight’s Lady Voltage are forward Helen Giroux and veteran Erin Piciotino. Giroux battled relentlessly up top for the Voltage, while midfielder Piciotino tallied the most shots on goal with a total of 3.

Fitness continues to be the Lady Voltage’s biggest weakness, although that weakness seems to be quickly dissipating as the season progresses. Mosher concluded with, “We continue to improve each match as our fitness and chemistry improves.”

The Vermont Voltage men again began the game with an excellent start against a very competitive Brooklyn Knights team. Possession and goal scoring opportunities seemed fairly even at halftime, especially reflected by the 0-0 score at halftime.

Not until the 58th minute when a miscommunication led to midfielder Juan Guerra of the Brooklyn Knights finding the back of the Voltage net. The Brooklyn Knights, who competed in the final four the previous year, are an experienced team who quickly capitalized on the Voltage breakdown in the back.

Brooklyn put the game to rest only ten short minutes later, with Hemir Niebles slotting the ball far post for a Knights goal. Despite being down two goals, the Voltage men continued their pursuit of the goal and applied rigorous pressure throughout the entirety of the match.

Defender Justin VanMatre came up big tonight in the defensive end for the Voltage, as well as creating an offensive threat toward the end of the match. The smooth ball handling and quick footwork of midfielder Daniel Stevens of the Voltage gave the team some much needed possession and offensive attack in tonight’s match.

Reserve players during the second half seem to revitalize the Voltage and energize their dangerous counterattacks toward the end of the game.

The loyal Vermont crowd assisted in providing some great positive support. The Sparks, Sparkettes, and mascot Sparky, all also promoted a affirmative and friendly atmosphere. “Price Chopper Night” was a success for the fans during halftime, which aided in keeping Voltage spirits high.

Playing both the Cape Code Crusaders and the Brooklyn Knights back to back proved to be a difficult and tiring task for the Voltage, with both teams considered to be two of the best teams in the league. The Vermont Voltage will be in Rhode Island next week and will return to Collins-Perley for the next home game on June 21st.
