LUDLOW, MASS – Excitement fills the training sessions as the Lady Pioneers are gearing up for their home opener at Lusitano Stadium on Sunday May 18th at 3:00pm vs. the Toronto Lady Lynx of Canada.

After making the W-League finals just two years ago, the departure of former head coach John Natale and the team breaking up after the season, 2nd year Coach Chris Mogavero had a rebuilding process last season. “Last season was a chance to assess new young talent and to gain experience as the season went on. This year we picked up some key experienced players that will add depth to the squad”, coach Mogavero stated.

There are 6 returning players and a host of new and former players from the 2006 final team. Many local players with great High School resumes standout in this lineup.

Returning player Therese Smith is a Holyoke Native and a current player for the University of Massachusetts – Amherst.

Returning player Joanna Hoqq who has numerous accolades as a former player for Belchertown HS. Joanna has just finished her freshman year at Messiah College.

Brooke Johns is returning to the Lady Pioneers as she was a former star from the 2006 Women’s Final team. Brooke is a California native and a graduate of the University of Hartford.

First year player Samantha Fortier is a local star from Minnechaug Regional who played for the New England Mutiny last year. Samantha attends Clemson University.

Finally, Elaine Fontes comes to the team as a former New Hamshire Lady Phantom from San Paulo, Brazil played her college ball at Oklahoma City University.

General Manager Greg Kolodziey is optimistic for a successful season this year. “I am glad to see the likes of Joanna Hoqq returning to the team and new comer Samantha Fortier who I have watched over the years at the high school level and see them develop into accomplished players”, Kolodziey stated.

All home games will be played at the Lusitano Stadium, 400 Winsor St., Ludlow, MA.
