Match Summary:

The Toronto Lady Lynx continued their torrid start to their 2008 W-League season with a 3-0 rout of the Vermont Lady Voltage this afternoon in St. Albans, Vermont. The win raises Toronto's record to 3-0-0 (9 points) on the season, while the Lady Voltage drop to 0-2-0 (0 points) on the year. Vermont remains winless all-time versus the Lady Lynx, and will seek to record their first-ever win over Toronto when the two teams resume hostilities on June 1 at 1:00 PM at Centennial Park Stadium in the second half of the home-and-home series. Alicia Donaldson and Tessa Dimitrakopoulos both scored their second goals of the season in the victory, while Brittany Bisnott recorded her first goal of the year. Keeper Aurelea Gumiela recorded her second shutout of the year in net.

The game was a highly physical affair, with numerous fouls called by the referee throughout the match as both teams fought hard from the opening kick-off until the final whistle. The Lady Lynx opened the scoring in the 15th minute on a highlight-reel goal by Donaldson. Midfielder Hayley MacDonald fed Julia Bazi the ball in the corner, and the Australian international crossed it into the box. Donaldson flew through the air to get her foot onto the cross and directed it past the stunned Vermont goalie to give the Lady Lynx the early lead. Bisnott, making her season debut, gave the Lady Lynx a 2-0 lead in the 67th minute when she fought through a group of Lady Voltage tacklers and slammed a 20-yard blast high into the Vermont goal.

Toronto iced the game in the 84th minute when Dimitrakopoulos corralled the rebound in the goal mouth from an Alyssa Lagonia free kick, and deposited the ball into the back of the net. The goal put the Lady Lynx ahead 3-0 and ensured Toronto would return home with the maximum three points. Gumiela, making her second start of the year, made two saves in recording her second consecutive clean sheet.

The Lady Lynx return home to host the Lady Voltage in the return match on Saturday June 1 at 1:00 PM at Centennial Park Stadium. The match is the first half of a Lynx/Lady Lynx doubleheader, with the men hosting West Michigan at 4:00 PM immediately following the Lady Lynx match. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the Lynx ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 or at the Centennial Park Stadium box office one hour prior to kick-off.
