LADY LYNX STARS LOOK TO CRACK U20 LINE-UP

TUESDAY JANUARY 29, 2008 (TORONTO, ON) Five Toronto Lady Lynx players have headed west to Vancouver for the Canadian Women’s U20 National Team training camp being held this week. Justine Bernier (GK), Danielle Blair (D), Allysha Chapman (M), Lexi Marton (D) and Tina Romagnuolo (M) will compete with nearly 30 other players from across the country to earn a spot on the team which will represent Canada as they bid to qualify for the 2008 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup being held in Chile from November 20 until December 7.

The camp, which kicked off on Sunday and wraps up on February 3, will help head coach Bob Birarda build a solid roster as Canada prepares for a yet-to-be scheduled CONCACAF Qualifying tournament to be held later this year. The top three teams from the tournament, which includes U20 national teams from North America and Caribbean, will then qualify directly for the World Cup in Chile. Canada has qualified for each of the three previous FIFA U20 World Cups including a stunning silver-medal finish in the inaugural championship in 2002, which they hosted. The 2006 Canadian roster featured three Lady Lynx players, including Amanda Cicchini, Loredana Riverso and Vonya Beckles.

“We hope all of the players get selected for the squad,” said Lady Lynx Head Coach Danny Stewart. “as it is a tremendous opportunity and honour for them to represent their country."

LADY LYNX JUNIOR NAMED TO ODP U17 SELECT TEAM

Lady Lynx U17 goalkeeper Sarah Dobush was named to the 2008 Super-Y League 1991 Select Squad following her standout play at the recent Olympic Development Program (ODP) National Camp held in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Over the course of the 2007 season, the top players in the USL Super Y-League were selected by the ODP Scouting System to attend this camp, including 5 other Lady Lynx Juniors. During an intense four-day combine, where they learned the demands involved in competing at the highest levels of the game, players were evaluated by ODP staff coaches and the most outstanding players were named to the SYL Select Team, including Dobush. Seven more Lady Lynx Juniors will attend the 1992/1993 ODP Camp which kicks off this Sunday in Florida.
