TORONTO LADY LYNX UNVEIL 2008 SCHEDULE

WEDNESDAY JANUARY 16, 2008 (TORONTO, ON) The Toronto Lady Lynx took the wraps off their 2008 W-League schedule this afternoon, which will see the 4th-year club play 14 games as they strive towards their fourth consecutive playoff berth and first W-League championship.

The Lady Lynx begin their 2008 campaign on Sunday May 18 with a visit to Ludlow, Massachusetts for a 3:00 PM clash against Northern Division newcomers Western Mass Pioneers. The home schedule kicks off three days later, Wednesday May 21, when the Lady Lynx play their first-ever match at the newly refurbished Varsity Centre on the campus of the University of Toronto downtown against the London Gryphons at 11:00 AM on the team’s annual School Day matinee. The Lynx franchise was based out of Varsity Stadium for their first 5 years of play before its demolition and the team’s subsequent relocation to Centennial Park Stadium in Etobicoke in 2002. The Lady Lynx game will be the first of 6 matches for the Lynx and Lady Lynx to be played at the sparkling new Varsity Centre.

The Lady Lynx will also be staging two “Lynxfest” matches in the local community in 2008. The first match will be a home game in Durham hosted by the Pickering Soccer Club on Saturday, July 5 at 4:00 PM against the Rochester Rhinos. The game will be the highlight of Pickering Soccer Club’s annual “Celebrating Durham Women in Soccer” festivities. Full details of the event and the venue will be announced within the next few weeks.

The following Saturday, July 12, will see the Lady Lynx head to Bolton to tackle the Western Mass Pioneers at 1:00 PM at Edelweiss Park, capping off a week of festivities and events in the town hosted by the Bolton Wanderers Soccer Club. The match will be followed at 5:00 PM by a Toronto Lynx PDL match, which will be announced shortly. The Lady Lynx will be staging a week-long camp session in Bolton in the week prior to the match as part of the "Lynxfest" event, which will be part of the Bolton Wanderer’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

Other highlights of the schedule include a doubleheader match with the Lynx at Centennial Park Stadium on June 1. The Lady Lynx will kick off the action at 1:00 PM against the Vermont Lady Voltage, prior to a 4:00 PM Lynx match, which will be announced next week. The team’s annual Youth Day matinee match is scheduled for Wednesday, July 9 at 11:00 AM at Centennial Park Stadium against heated rival Laval Comets.

The Lady Lynx wrap up their 2008 schedule with a pair of games on the final weekend of the season. The Hamilton Lady Avalanche will make a trip up the QEW for an encounter on Saturday, July 19 at 4:00 PM at Varsity Stadium to close out the home schedule. Toronto will then take to the road to close out the season with a 7:35 match against the Rochester Rhinos at PAETEC Park.
