This game result was somewhat of a surprise because TFC were missing players for international duty. Regular goalie Greg Sutton and defenders Adam Braz and Marco Reda were away playing for the Canadian National team in a tune up match for the Gold Cup. Reserve players were used sparingly as they will soon be playing more exhibitions for the Canadian Under 20 team. (Gabe Gala and Andrea Lombardo were players left behind for Toronto FC to use if needed). Carl Robinson was away in Europe playing a qualifier in Wales. The team only has two signed goalies and so had called in Sam Reynolds from Chivas USA as their sub under MLS rules. The reserve game was 'postponed' as it would have been a problem getting enough players to make a team.
The Rapids were riding a four game undefeated streak coming into this game. They were lucky they weren't down 5-1 at the end of the half as often their goalie was left on his own for TFC players breaking in for shots.
This was the first game I haven't seen Ronnie O'Brien wear a leg brace.
