Toronto FC has traded midfielder Richard Mulrooney to the Houston Dynamo for defender Kevin Goldthwaite and a first-round 2008 draft pick.

The Major League Soccer club also announced Thursday that it has acquired defender Marvell Wynne from the New York Red Bulls for a partial allocation and a second-round 2008 pick.

Toronto, 0-2, plays Wednesday at Kansas City, and the home opener is April 28 against the Wizards.

Goldthwaite, 24, begins his third season in MLS after joining the league in 2005 with the San Jose Earthquakes. The six-foot-one, 175-pound defender started eight games and appeared in 20 in 2006.

"We're excited about him," said head coach Mo Johnston. "He's a senior international, very good on the ball, he's left, and he's versatile as well. He can move inside."

Mulrooney was acquired by Toronto on March 20 in a trade with FC Dallas.

"We spoke numerous times, his wife has a great job in America, and for me, we had to make a quick decision, but he's a class guy and we're sorry to see him go," said Johnston.

Wynne, 20, was the first overall selection in the 2006 MLS Superdraft. The five-foot-nine, 171-pound defender started 23 of 28 games in his rookie season in New York, and two of his three assists led to winning goals.

"It was important we added some depth to our defence and speed and Marvell brings that," said Johnston. "He's probably the fastest guy in the league.

"He's a young kid, he's strong, he's quick, and he's going to get better in time. We're excited and delighted to have him on board."
