TORONTO — Veteran striker Danny Dichio is leaving Preston North End for Toronto FC.

Dichio, 32, has also played for Derby, West Brom, Sunderland, Millwall and QPR in England and had a stint in Italy with Sampdoria and Lecce.

"It's been something on my mind for a year or two now, that we go to America to live when I finish playing, or if I had the opportunity, to move out there before I finish playing and this has arisen," he was quoted on the Preston official website.

"I went over there for a week about a month ago, and Toronto were one of the clubs that put an offer on the table for me. It's a very good contract that they've offered me for my family and me personally. With the (MLS) transfer window shutting on Sunday it had to be done rather quickly.

"It's a fresh opportunity and adventure for me and at this stage of my career this is what I think I needed."

The six-foot-three forward has five goals this season for Preston in the Football Championship, one tier below the Premier League.

According to the Daily Telegraph, he signed a three-year deal with the MLS. Dicho's contract with Preston was to run out this summer.

Toronto, an expansion team, is 0-2 and has yet to score this season.
