Toronto FC announced Thursday, that they have traded Midfielder Jose Cancela to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for a Youth Development roster spot that is secured until 2009. Cancela was originally acquired by Toronto in the MLS Expansion Draft held back in November.

"It frees up a foreign spot, and room under the salary cap," said Head Coach Mo Johnston, "we're sorry to see him go - but he wasn't settled in Toronto, we only want guys that want to be here. This move also enables us to go out and pick up a first round draft pick next year."

Cancela did not accompany Toronto on the road to Los Angeles where they open up their 2008 MLS Season against Chivas USA on Saturday. Kick off at the Home Depot Center is 7:30pm PT/10:30pm ET. The game will be broadcast LIVE in Canada on Rogers Sportsnet, and on FSC/FSE in the U.S.
