Toronto FC signs midfielder Andy Welsh
Former Sunderland player joins TFC

Toronto FC announced Monday that they have signed Midfielder Andy Welsh to a contract, as per team policy financial details were not disclosed. "He's quick, tricky, and loves to go at defenders," said Head Coach Mo Johnston, "he's a top quality left winger with Premier League experience and he brings that to our team."
"I fancied a new challenge, it's a different country and a chance for something new," said Welsh, "I was impressed with the city, and obviously Mo's football career speaks for itself, and that can only help me."
Welsh, 24, began his professional career with Stockport County whom he signed with in 2001 and went on to make 74 appearances with the club in 3 years.
In November of 2004, he moved to Sunderland - and made his debut with the team on January 8, 2005 scoring a goal in their 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace. That season he made 8 appearances.
Welsh was loaned twice to Leicester City once in March of 2006, the second in October of last year.
He made 10 appearances with the Foxes, scoring once, and returned back to Sunderland playing the club's final two games against Fulham and Aston Villa. He re-joined Leicester after an injury in the pre-season.
