Major League Soccer champions Houston Dynamo defeated expansion team Toronto FC 2-0 on Saturday night in an exhibition game in Charleston, S.C., the opener for each team in the Carolina Challenge Cup.

Houston had a goal called back after five minutes on an offside call.

Brad Davis's corner resulted in a goal by Ryan Cochrane in the 16th minute to put Houston into the lead.

Later in the first half, Edson Buddle had a chance to tie the game but his curling shot missed.

The tournament rules state that teams are allowed to make unlimited changes to their lineup and Toronto made its first change in the 63rd minute when Andy Welsh, recently acquired from the English team Sunderland. was replaced by Maycoll Canizalez.

Chris Wondolowski scored with 18 minutes left in the game.

"There was good and bad to this game," Toronto FC head coach Mo Johnston said. "The first half we were even with chances, but we were tired near the end."

Toronto will take Sunday off, before returning to practice on Monday. Their next game in Charleston is Wednesday against the New York Red Bulls.

The team announced Saturday, that goalkeeper Jon Busch has been waived by the club. Busch was acquired March 5 off waivers from the Columbus Crew.
