Prior to their first taste of MLS competition, Toronto FC warmed up for defending champions Houston Dynamo with a 2-0 victory over local university Coastal Carolina late Wednesday afternoon.
TFC took the victory over the hard-working hosts with two goals in the second half.
Alecko Eskandarian added to his preseason total by scoring on a left-footed strike in the 73rd minute, while just two minutes later, Abbe Ibrahim doubled Toronto's advantage on a breakaway.
Goalkeeper Greg Sutton played the first 75 minutes, while Tomer Chencinski came in to preserve the shutout and the win for Toronto.
Defender Marco Reda, who has been sidelined with a quad injury, saw his first game action in some time, while midfielder Ronnie O'Brien continues to improve his fitness after spending time out with a knee injury. The Ireland native played the full 90 minutes against Coastal Carolina.
TFC's preseason record now sits at 9-1-1 and the side is getting set to face some tough opponents in the Carolina Cup Challenge. Toronto will open the three-game tournament against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET. The following Wednesday, Toronto takes on the New York Red Bulls. They will wrap up the tournament on March 31 against hosts Charleston Battery.
