Toronto FC trades for Togolese youth

Toronto FC added a little more international flavour to their Major League Soccer training camp roster yesterday in obtaining Abdoulaye Ibrahim, of Togo, from the New York Red Bulls for cash and a fourth-round draft pick in 2008.

The 20-year-old didn't play with the Red Bulls in 2006 but got rave reviews when he trained with English Premier League's Manchester United and the Scottish Premier League's Hearts.

"He's lightning quick, and causes defenders a lot of problems," Toronto coach Mo Johnston said yesterday.

The 5-foot-9 Ibrahim was born in Togo's capital city of Lome, and played on the Tongelese under-20 team. He becomes the first player from Togo to play in the MLS.
