Match Summary:

The Toronto Lynx closed out their 2007 PDL season in style with a shocking 3-1 pounding of the host Michigan Bucks this evening. The victory was the first home loss of the season for the Bucks, who have clinched the Great Lakes Division championships and will host the Central Conference championships next weekend. Their record drops to 10-2-3 (33 points) on the season. The Lynx finish their inaugural PDL season at 6-6-4 (22 points), and claim fourth place in the highly competitive Great Lakes Division.

The Lynx fell behind early when the Bucks were awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box in the 8th minute. Nik Djokic converted to put Michigan up 1-0, and the Bucks would continue to control play for the remainder of the frame.

At the interval, Coach Duncan Wilde decided to change tactics and started the second half with an attacking 3-5-2 formation to push for the win. Red-hot Murphy Wiredu put the team on his back and netted a pair of goals in the first 14 minutes of the half, extending his incredible goal-scoring streak, which saw the Brampton striker net 10 goals in the final 9 games of the year. Dane Roberts added his first career PDL goal to close the scoring and complete the stunning comeback for the Lynx.

“I’m extremely proud of how the boys played today,” said Wilde. “We were missing a few regulars, but everyone on the pitch stepped up today. The players showed true class, guts and pride. They deserve full credit for playing such a big game to close our season.”

The Toronto Lady Lynx will return to action tomorrow afternoon, Saturday July 21, at 4:00 PM at Centennial Park Stadium against the Laval Comets. The team will have chance to avenge last Friday's loss to the Comets and clinch second place in the Northern Division with a win or a tie. The match will wrap up the 2007 Lady Lynx regular season and is Fan Appreciation Day. The annual Lady Lynx Player Awards will be presented prior to the match, and fans will be able to bid on and purchase their favourite Lady Lynx player's jersey during a silent auction held throughout the match. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Lynx ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 x 31 or at the Centennial Park Stadium box office 2 hours prior to kick-off.
