Match Summary:

The Toronto Lynx routed the Cleveland Internationals 3-1 this afternoon before a raucous Youth Day crowd of 3,013 at Centennial Park Stadium. The win was the second consecutive home victory for the Lynx and raised their record to 4-5-4 (16 points) on the season. The Lynx, who have scored ten goals in their past two home matches, vault into fourth place in the Great Lakes Division, with three matches to play. Cleveland drops to 3-8-1 (10 points) on the season, tied with Fort Wayne for last in the division. The two teams split their season series with one win apiece.

Cleveland started the first half with the wind at their back, and were able to quickly use it to their advantage. Matt Tudich put the Internationals ahead 1-0 in the 14th minute, but the lead was short lived. The Lynx stormed back after the goal, scoring twice in a two-minute span to claim the lead. Forward Daniel Revivo notched his second of the year in the 16h minute, slamming home a Kevin Omokhua feed. One minute later, Eric DiLorenzo blew past his defender and dribbled deep into the Cleveland penalty area. His cross was redirected by International defender Josh Williams into the net for an own goal, putting the Lynx up 2-1.

In the 22nd minute, ‘keeper Chris Baker made the save of the season when he made a leaping, diving save on a point-blank blast, preserving the Lynx lead and wowing the packed throng. The play further inspired the Lynx, and they were able to control play for the remainder of the half, and took the 2-1 lead into the locker room.

With the wind at their back in the second frame, the Lynx were able to extend their lead and dominate the match. Murphy Wiredu added two goals, in the 57th and 88th minute, giving him 7 goals in his last 6 matches, and super sub Luke Stedmond added his third goal in the 83rd minute. Baker added another brilliant save in the 72nd minute when he dove across the goalmouth and punched a Cleveland shot over the bar to safety. Taylor McNamara also had an impressive afternoon, adding two assists and helping Toronto dominate the midfield throughout the game.

The Lynx return to action this Friday evening to begin a two-game weekend series against the Fort Wayne Fever to wrap up their 2007 home schedule. The teams kick off at 7:30 PM on Friday July 13, on Hometown Heroes Night, and resume hostilities on Fan Appreciation Day on Sunday, July 15 at 4:00 PM. Tickets for all both matches can be secured by calling the Lynx ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 x 31 or at the stadium box office two hours prior to kick-off.
