Match Summary:

The Toronto Lynx earned their second consecutive victory and their first home win of the season this afternoon with a decisive 5-0 victory over the visiting Indiana Invaders. Red-hot Murphy Wiredu recorded two goals for the victors, giving him four in the past three games, leading the way for all Lynx scorers on the season. The win improves the Lynx record to 3-4-3 (12 points) in their inaugural season in the Premier Development League and elevates the club into fourth place in the Great Lakes Division. The Invaders sink to 3-5-2 (11 points) and drop to fifth place in the division with the loss.

The first half was a sluggish affair with neither team able to dictate the pace of the game on a hot and muggy evening at Centennial Park Stadium. The Invaders, who were beaten 5-1 in Michigan by the division-leading bucks last evening, began to tire as the second half opened, and the Lynx, taking advantage of Indiana’s fatigue, began to dominate the match. The Lynx opened the scoring in the 59th minute when Rick Titus corralled a rebound just outside the box and flicked it through to an open Wiredu who blasted it past Justin Holmes in the Invader goal. Wiredu scored again six minutes later when Indiana failed to clear a lose ball, and the crafty forward gathered it up and slotted it home with a low drive just inside the far post.

Kayin Jeffers continued the onslaught for the Lynx when he headed home a Sergio DeLuca corner in the 70th minute, his first career marker to put the hosts up 3-0, and Daniel Revivo earned his first ever goal seven minutes later to make the score 4-0. Revivo set up the final Lynx goal in the 80th minute when his brilliant through ball sent Luke Stedmond alone on a breakaway, where he deked past Holmes and found the open net to make it 5-0 Toronto. Chris Baker earned his fourth shutout of the year in goal for the Lynx.

The Lynx return to the road for two more matches, July 5 in Cleveland and July 7 in West Michigan before returning home on July 11 to battle the Cleveland Internationals at 12:00 PM on the club’s annual Youth Day matinee. Tickets can be purchased through the Lynx ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 x 23 or at the Centennial Park Stadium box office 2 hours prior to kickoff.
