Match Summary:

The Toronto Lynx remain unbeaten on their current 5-game road swing after a hard-fought nil-nil draw in Chicago against the defending Central Conference champion Fire Premier this evening. The tie raises the Lynx record to 1-2-3 on the season and draws them level with Fort Wayne for fifth place in the Great Lakes Division, while Chicago's record moves to 4-1-3 on the season, keeping the team in second place in the division. The season series between Toronto and Chicago finishes even, with two draws in their two matches.

The Lynx, building on the momentum created on Thursday evening after clinching their first victory of the season in Indiana, came out strong once again and dominated play early in the game. Chicago's tight defense remained steadfast, and the Lynx were unable to score. Midfielder Cam Medwin missed a glorious chance to put the Lynx ahead midway through the frame when his penalty kick struck the Fire crossbar and was cleared to safety. The miss energized the hosts, and the match became an even affair from that point forward. The second half featured thrilling, end-to-end action on both sides of the ball, but neither team were able to find the net and the game ended level at zero, with each team earning a point.

Head Coach Duncan Wilde was pleased with his young team's effort in the match, and in their opening six matches of the 2007 season. "We've proven that our boys can play at this level, having held Chicago to two draws, and playing well against Michigan last weekend. We need to start scoring with more consistency, but I have full confidence in the squad and I expect that we will compete for the division title."

The Lynx road trip continues next Friday evening for a return match in Michigan against the first-place Bucks, who sit atop the division with a 5-0-2 record. The Lynx will look to avenge a thrilling 2-1 defeat at the hands of the defending PDL champions on June 3 in Toronto. Toronto will wrap up the long road swing with games in West Michigan and Fort Wayne before the team returns home on Sunday, June 24 for a 6:00 PM return match against the Indiana Invaders, who will seek to avenge tonight’s defeat. Fans can purchase tickets for this and any other Lynx/Lady Lynx match by calling 416-251-4625 x 31 or at the Centennial Park Stadium box office two hours prior to kick-off.
