Match Summary:

The Toronto Lynx earned their second point of the young 2007 season after drawing at two with the visiting Chicago Fire Premier at Centennial Park Stadium this afternoon on the club’s annual School Day matinee. The Lynx now sit fifth in the Great Lakes division with 2 points from 3 matches, while the Fire Premier move to first place with 8 points from 4 games.

Under the heat of the afternoon sun, the first half was an even battle, with both teams having their fair of share of possession. Neither team was able to manufacture many quality scoring chances, but just prior to halftime, the Fire opened the scoring after Neil Hlavaty nailed home a Marcus Mccarty cross past Lynx keeper Chris Baker.

Trailing to open the second half, the Lynx came out on the attack, placing constant pressure on the Fire Premier defence. Their efforts finally were rewarded in the 46th minute when forward Jean Tshimpaka stripped a Fire defender of the ball and was brought down in the box on his counter-strike. Cameron Medwin took the penalty and blasted home the Lynx’ first goal of the young season. The pace of the match immediately picked up with both teams surging forward with attacks on each other’s net The Lynx broke the tie and took their first lead when substitute Taylor McNamara slotted in his first on a precision feed from Kevin Omokhua 18 minutes later, but the young squad could not hold the lead. The 2006 Central Conference champion Fire Premier evened up the match when Strider Elass scored in the 71st minute, and the two teams deservedly split the points.

The Lynx return to action next Sunday, June 3, when the 2006 PDL Champion Michigan Bucks make their first ever foray into Toronto. Tickets for the 3:00 PM match at Centennial Park Stadium can be reserved by calling 416-251-4625 or at the box office two hours prior to kick-off.
