Match Summary:
The Toronto Lynx suffered a heat-breaking 2-1 loss to the 2006 PDL Champion Michigan Bucks in a bitterly contested match this afternoon at Centennial Park Stadium. Super sub Kenny Uzoique scored in the 89th minute on a header to lead the Bucks to their fourth victory on the season. Toronto finish their season-opening home-stand with an 0-2-2 record and a sixth place position in the PDL’s Great Lakes Division.
The Lynx dominated play throughout the early going in the match, controlling the ball for long periods of time and out-shooting the visitors by a wide 12-3 margin. Forward Murphy Wiredu missed a number of glorious chances, including a powerful strike which caromed off the Michigan crossbar. The half was marked with intense physical play, and four yellow cards were issued by the referee.
Toronto continued to be the aggressor to begin the second half, but Michigan opened the scoring against play when Nate Jafta scored 6 minutes into the frame on a counter attack, set up by half-time substitute Ty Shiplane. The Lynx recovered bravely, and were rewarded in the 69th minute when midfielder Tristan Murray blasted a free kick from the top of the penalty area past Steve Clark in the Michigan goal. Late in the half, Michigan began to press, creating a number of chances, and clinched the match in the 89th minute when striker Uzoique found space alone right in front of the Lynx goal and headed home an Alex Morrisset cross past Chris Baker. The Lynx were unable to equalize in the waning moments and were sent to defeat.
The Lynx hit the road for their next five games, with stops in Indiana, Chicago, Michigan, West Michigan and Fort Wayne before return home on Sunday, June 24 for a 6:00 PM tussle against the upstart Indiana Invaders, who sit in third place in the Great Lakes Division with a 2-0-2 record to start the season.
