Match Summary:

The Toronto Lynx earned their first point of the 2006 and their first point as a Premier Development League squad in a chippy 0-0 draw against the visiting West Michigan Edge at Centennial Park Stadium this afternoon. The visitors won the season opener between the two clubs 3-0 yesterday afternoon, and sit atop the Great Lakes Division with 4 points. Toronto sits in second place with 1 point from two matches.

The first half was an even, hard fought affair, with tough tackles on both sides of the ball, and five cautions being issued. Neither team was able to manufacture many quality scoring chances, and tempers flared throughout the frame.

The second half picked up where the first half left off, with fierce play for both clubs, and the defensive struggle continued. In the 68th minute, forward Frank Jonke skilfully dribbled through the Edge defense into the penalty area, but his powerful strike narrowly missed the near post and ended up in the side netting. The near miss energized the Lynx and a number of quality chances ensued for the hosts but there were still unable to crack the tight West Michigan defense. Defender Alex Ruhe Lischke earned his second yellow card in the 76th minute, leaving Toronto to the match with 10 men and the game ended level at zero. Keeper Robert Cavicchia earned the shutout for Toronto in his Lynx debut.

The Lynx return home on May 25 for a School Day match against the powerful Chicago Fire Premier, 2006’s Central Conference champions, and will look to earn their first win of the young season.
