Attendance was about 1000 on this hot, sunny day. A good turnout for Fan Appreciation Day.

There were plenty of scoring chances for both teams but a low score wasn’t a surprise. Until this game, Lady Lynx defence had given up only 15 goals in 11 games and Comets only 9 in 11 games.

The two best non-scoring chances were at 65 minutes when LL Allysha Chapman’s 20 yard freekick was blocked low in the Comets player wall. The ball rolled forward and LL Tina Romagnuolo shot from 5 yards that had the goalie push the ball wide left while making this point-blank save. At 92 minutes, although the ref had signalled for only 1 minute of extra time, Comets Andreanne Gagne’s 45 yard freekick from the right had the ball bounce through a crowd of players and hit the cross bar and fall to the fallen goalie Justine Bernier to make the save. It would have been unfair for the game to end other than a tie based on the work of both teams.

The Lady Lynx tie today clinches second place for them and gets them the one-game playoff game as the host on Wednesday night against….Laval Comets. If the Comets had won, they would have hosted against the Lady Lynx. They have a different fan base than MLS Toronto FC but I’ll be at that game against English Premier team Aston Villa.
