1-1 draw versus Laval earns Toronto right to host playoff game Wednesday evening

Match Summary:

The Toronto Lady Lynx clinched 2nd place in the Northern Division this afternoon with a hard-fought and intense 1-1 draw with the visiting Laval Comets at Centennial Park Stadium.The Lady Lynx’ finish the regular season with a 7-3-2 (23 points) record, 1 point clear of the Comets (7-4-1, 22 points).The two teams will now meet again this Wednesday evening, July 25, at Centennial Park Stadium in the Northern Division semi-final.Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM, with the winner heading to the Eastern Conference Finals, most likely to be held in Ottawa next weekend.Laval wins the season series between the two teams, with a win and a draw in two matches.

The two teams came out attacking from the opening whistle onward, and traded chances throughout the opening half.Laval got on the board first in the 38th minute, when Andreanne Gagne’s free kick from the near sideline was tapped inside the far past Justine Bernier by Myriem Bouchard.The goal put the Comets up by a 1-0 score going into intermission.

The Lady Lynx came out of the locker room charged up, and were quickly able to equalize.Brittany Moore’s corner kick was knocked around the box before Claire Ramsdale was able to push it on to Brooke McCalla.McCalla calmly slotted the ball home and levelled the score at 1-1.The two teams continued to share chances throughout the remainder of the half, leading up to a thrilling final 10 minutes which saw both teams nearly put the ball into the net, if not for big saves from both keepers.In the final minute, a powerful Comet shot from the far side of the penalty area beat Bernier, but it ricocheted off the near post back to her, and she was able to smother it and preserve the tie.The final whistle blew shortly thereafter, and the two rivals split the points.
