Date: July 18, 2007

Venue: Centennial Park Stadium, Toronto, ON

Kick Off Time: 12:00 PM EDT

Final Score: Toronto 3 Rochester 1

Match Summary:

The Toronto Lady Lynx moved back into second place in the Northern Division this afternoon with a 3-1 victory over the Rochester Rhinos in front of a large Youth Day crowd. Adrienne Ruhe Lischke scored twice for the Lady Lynx to lead them to their seventh win of the season against three losses and one tie. The victory moves the Lady Lynx (7-3-1, 22 points) one point clear of Laval in second place in the division. The two teams meet on Saturday afternoon in Toronto in the regular season finale for both clubs, and a Lady Lynx victory or tie will clinch second place and the right to host a W-League playoff game next week against the same Laval Comets. Rochester, who will host the W-League championships on the first weekend of August, falls to 3-7-0 (9 points) on the year, good for fourth place in the Division. The Lady Lynx raised their all-time record to 5-0-0 against the Rhinos, including a 3-0-0 record this season.

Toronto took charge of the match soon after the opening whistle, and was quick to find the scoreboard. Brittany Moore dribbled deep into the 18-yard box, and her cross was redirected into the net by Rhinos defender Ayana Russell for an own goal in the 5th minute, putting Toronto ahead 1-0. Ruhe Lischke then put the Lady Lynx up by three goals with a pair of quick goals. In the 12th minute, Moore crossed the ball into the top of the penalty area to Stefania Morra, who flicked it on to Ruhe Lischke who was left alone only yards in front of the Rochester net. The striker calmly shot it past a helpless Joy McKenzie for her seventh of the year. Eleven minutes later, she added her eighth of the season when she was sent alone on the keeper by Tina Romagnuolo. Toronto continued to dominate play for the remainder of the half and took a 3-0 lead into the locker room.

Rochester regrouped following the intermission, and in the 52nd minute recorded their first-ever goal against the Lady Lynx. Rhinos leading scorer Gretchen Miller struck a free kick from 23 yards out into the wall, and it was deflected into a wide-open Toronto net. The Lady Lynx quickly retained their composure and were able to snuff the Rochester rally. The two teams traded chances throughout the remainder of the half, but neither team was able to score and the game ended at 3-1 in favour of the Lady Lynx.

The Lady Lynx will return to action on Saturday afternoon, July 21, at 4:00 PM at Centennial Park Stadium against the Laval Comets. The team will have chance to avenge last Friday's loss to the Comets and clinch second place in the Northern Division with a win or a tie. The match will wrap up the 2007 Lady Lynx regular season and is Fan Appreciation Day. The annual Lady Lynx Player Awards will be presented prior to the match, and fans will be able to bid on and purchase their favourite Lady Lynx player's jersey during a silent auction held throughout the match. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Lynx ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 x 31 or at the Centennial Park Stadium box office 2 hours prior to kick-off.
