Match Summary:

The Toronto Lady Lynx suffered their third loss of the season this evening in Laval, Quebec, ending up on the wrong side of a 2-0 decision to the Laval Comets. The loss drops the Lady Lynx recored to 5-3-1 (16 points) on the season, and leaves Toronto five points behind the Comets in the race for second place in the Northern Division and the right to host a W-League playoff game. The Lady Lynx, however, have two games in hand on Laval, and face the Comets in both team's final regular season match next Saturday afternoon in Toronto. Laval's record improves to 7-4-0 (21 points) with the victory. Toronto remains winless against the Comets, with two ties and a loss in three meetings between the clubs.

The Comets opened the game strongly, and took the lead in just the 2nd minute. Aimee Legault penetrated the Lady Lynx defense, and uncorked a low shot just inside the right post from just inside the 18-yard box past Justine Bernier in the Toronto goal. The Comets increased their margin in the 60th minute on a Sophie Hopper penalty kick. Laval earned the penalty when Lady Lynx midfielder Brittany Bisnott's challenge on a Comet attacker in the box was ruled extreme by the referee.

The Lady Lynx continued to fight hard to the final whistle, attacking the Comet goal with abandon. Laval's defense was up to the challenge, and the hosts were able to counter and create chances of their own. Neither team, however, managed to find the net and the game ended at 2-0 in favour of the hosts.

The Lady Lynx return to action tomorrow afternoon at 5:30 PM in St. Albans, Vermont against the Lady Voltage. The team then returns home for a pair of games next week to complete their 2007 W-League schedule. The Rochester Rhinos visit on Wednesday afternoon at 12:00 PM as the Lady Lynx host their annual Youth Day matinee. The Lady Lynx will then have a chance to avenge tonight's loss to the Comets when Laval visits on Saturday, July 21 at 4:00 PM on Fan Appreciation Day to wrap up the 2007 regular season. The annual Lady Lynx Player Awards will be presented prior to the match, and fans will be able to bid on and purchase their favourite Lady Lynx player's jersey during a silent auction held throughout the match .
