June 23, 2007 W-League Ottawa Fury Women vs Toronto Lady Lynx (from Fury web site)

Fury go top with 4-1 win over Toronto

[2007.06.23 - Ottawa, ON] Kelly Parker scores two as Ottawa tames Lynx

The Ottawa Fury Women took sole possession of first place in the W-League Northern Division and extended their unbeaten league streak to six straight wins when they defeated the Toronto Lady Lynx 4-1 in W-League action this evening at Keith Harris Stadium, Carleton University. Kelly Parker led the way with two goals as Anne Hamel and Anna Laue chipped in with singles to negate an early Toronto goal from Adrienne Ruhe-Liscshke.

The Fury started out very slowly and were put on the back foot by the youthful Lynx side and after a very nervous and error-prone few minutes, the Fury went behind in the 8th minute when Adrienne Ruhe-Lischke took advantage of a defensive mix up to beat Vanessa Bosshart-Phillips from close range. The Lynx continued to shut down the Fury quickly whenever they had the ball and forced the normally composed Ottawa team to make uncommon mistakes. The strong running Lynx attackers Ruhe-Lischke, Stefani Morra, Tina Romagnuolo, Brittany Moore and Clare Ramsdale were not afraid to take on the Fury defenders one on one and generally the Lynx had the better of the first half. However after all their hard work in limiting the Fury to very few chances, a short corner taken by Rachael Axon to Kelly Parker resulted in Hamel heading in Parker’s cross to pull the Fury level at the 44th minute. The Fury went into the half time break somewhat fortunate to be on level terms.

Kelly Parker gave the Fury the ideal start to the second half finishing off a five pass move involving Axon, Hamel and Parker in the 46th minute to put the Fury ahead for the first time. The Fury would take command of the game in the second half and as the Lynx tired it became increasingly difficult for Toronto to gain and maintain good possession. The Fury increased their lead in the 68th minute after sterling work down the left hand side by Ciara MacCormack resulted in a cross which substitute Anna Laue converted with a neat header at the near post past Justine Bernier. The Fury continued to dominate with Parker, Leah Robinson and Axon always at the center of things and it was no surprise when Laue, Hamel and Parker combined with the latter hammering the ball past Bernier into the roof of the net at the 70th minute. Looking forward to tomorrow’s game coach Frank Lofranco used a number of substitutes to rest his starting players. The Fury Women will be playing their 5th game in 9 days tomorrow evening. The Fury played out time but not without the Lynx giving them a scare when Emily Montgomery hit the post from 25 yards late on. The Fury outshot the Lynx eight to four and gained ten corners to the Lynx zero.

The Fury Women (6-0-0) will be busy tomorrow when they host the Rochester Raging Rhinos Women at 6:00 PM. Prior to the Women’s game, the Fury Men will host the Brooklyn Knights in PDL play - kick off 3:30 PM.

All home games are played at Keith Harris Stadium at Carleton University. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Fury ticket hotline at 613-235-3879 or at the Stadium box office 2 hours prior to kick-off.
