Match Summary:
The Toronto Lady Lynx’ hot start to the 2007 W-League season continued this afternoon with a 3-0 romp over the short-handed Vermont Lady Voltage at muggy Centennial Park Stadium in Etobicoke. The win gives the Lady Lynx a maximum 9 points from three games to start the year and leaves them alone atop the Northern Division.
Toronto again came out on fire against the Lady Voltage, and controlled the ball from the opening whistle onward. Adrienne Ruhe Lischke scored two quick goals, in the 7th and 22nd minutes, to spot the Lady Lynx to a 2-nil advantage. Midfielder Brittany Moore added assists on both goals, giving her 4 on the season and establishing the rookie as one of the elite playmakers in the entire W-League. Tina Romagnoulo tallied her first career goal 5 minutes later when her lob shot was bobbled by Vermont ‘keeper Kimmy Dias into the goal. Ruhe Lischke earned an assist on the play, giving her 5 points on the afternoon and giving her the team lead with 9 points in just four matches this season.
The Lady Lynx made a flurry of substitutions early in the second half to allow their starters to rest for tomorrow’s important match against the Rochester Rhinos at Centennial Park Stadium. The subs continued to press forward and the Lady Lynx had a number of chances, but were unable to extend their lead and settled for the 3-0 victory. Justine Bernier earned her third consecutive clean sheet and has not conceded a goal yet this season.
The Lady Lynx return to action tomorrow afternoon with a 6:00 PM match against the Rochester Rhinos at Centennial Park Stadium. The match will be preceded by a 3:00 PM Lynx match against the 2006 PDL Champion Michigan Bucks. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Lynx ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 x 31 or at the Centennial Park Stadium box office 2 hours prior to kick-off.
