Attendance was about 250 which was much better than the men’s game of 100 although with tickets sold for the day as 591 plus 250 sponsors tickets they will tell the league it was 841. There was an offer to stay and see both games but there wasn’t much overlap. This women’s game had been rescheduled from a different day because of the suspension of the Sudbury franchise just before the season began.

The bigger point was how many fans showed up because of the weather. Right at the time of the first goal, it started to rain and the sky opened up a complete downpour from just before halftime until after the game was over. There was enough space under the press box for most fans to seek shelter.

The second goal was very important for the Lady Lynx. There was a risk that the referee could have called the game because of thunder and lightning but it wasn’t quite close enough to be considered a danger. We were not too sure of league rules about how much of a game had to be played before it was official or would it have to be started again at 0-0. It would be very difficult to reschedule a game with the short season.

Justine Bernier earned the shutout for the Lady Lynx. It was her fourth shutout in the team’s four games this year. At 76 minutes, Jacquie Lacek did have her 25 yard shot drop and hit the bar over the leaping goalie but the ball was cleared from the box. Brittany Bisnott hit the bar from 20 yards for the Lady Lynx at 87 minutes over goalie Joy McKenzie.

The team’s 4-0 record gives them the lead in the Northern Division. Ottawa Fury and Laval Comets are the other good teams in this division.

The ball was difficult for both goalies to catch but they were helped out by many of the shots being from outside the box and rebounds stopping as soon as they hit the ground for easy pick-up. Referee Ian Adair gave out only one Yellow card in this game which wasn’t rough but a few more sliding tackles were made on the wet ground.
