Match Summary:
Three quick strikes by the Lady Lynx helped lead them to a 4-0 rout over the host Rochester Rhinos in Toronto's 2007 W-League regular-season opening match this evening at PAETEC Park in Rochester, New York.
Newcomer Brittany Moore opened the scoring for the visitors with a goal 20 seconds into the match. The rookie took a feed from Brooke McCalla and slammed into into the net to put the Lady Lynx up to a quick goal and stun the host Rhinos. Adrienne Ruhe Lischke tallied two minutes later on a breakaway set up by Tina Romagnuolo, giving Toronto a stunning 2-0 lead in the opening three minutes. Stephanie Morra found the net in the 18th minute and Brittany Bisnott scored in the 75th minute to complete the scoring for the Lady Lynx. 2006 W-League Goalkeeper of the Year Justine Bernier earned the shutout for Toronto.
The win gives Toronto 3 points and puts then atop the Northern Division. The match was the first of three regular season clashes between Toronto and Rochester this year. The Rhinos will host the W-League championship later this summer.
Toronto returns to action on Wednesday morning with their annual School Day matinee at 11 am against the Hamilton Lady Avalanche at Centennial Park Stadium, and host a matches on the weekend, including a 4:00 PM tangle with Vermont on Saturday afternoon, June 2, and a return match against Rochester on Sunday afternoon, June 3 at Centennial, with kick-off slated for 6:00 PM. Sunday's game will be preceded by the Lynx hosting 2006 PDL champion Michigan Bucks at 3:00 PM.
