Match Summary:

A flurry of first-half goals by the Lady Lynx powered the club to a 5-0 win over the visiting Hamilton Lady Avalanche this afternoon on the team’s annual School Day matinee game. The win is Toronto’s second in as many games to open the season and gives the club six points, even with Laval atop the highly competitive Northern Division of the W-League. Hamilton drops to 0-2-0 after two games to start the season.

As was the case Friday evening in Rochester in a 4-0 win over the Rhinos, the Lady Lynx came out flying to start the match. Daniela Schwarz, making her Lady Lynx debut, opened the scoring in the 26th minute when she chested a Brittany Moore cross past a helpless Nicole Mercer in the Hamilton goal. The Lady Lynx extended their lead three minutes later when Moore’s powerful strike caromed off the cross bar to a wide open Stefania Morra who drove the ball home for her second goal of the young season. Moore finally notched a goal of her own in the 43rd when she tucked a low cross from Tina Romagnuolo just inside the left post for a three-nil Lady Lynx lead. Morra rounded out the first half scoring for the Lady Lynx in injury time to end the first half when she headed home a Moore corner kick for her second goal of the match. The assist was Moore’s third on the afternoon, a new team record.

The second half saw the Lady Lynx sit back and play tight defense and smother the Hamilton attack. Neither team generated many scoring chances until the 81st minute, when Kate Qually found the net for her first goal as a Lady Lynx. Brittany Bisnott capped the scoring for the hosts when Adrienne Ruhe Lischke sent the forwardthrough on a breakaway, Bisnott’s second goal of the year. Justine Bernier earned the shutout for the Lady Lynx, her second consecutive clean sheet to start the year.

The Lady Lynx return to action this Saturday afternoon when the host the Vermont Lady Voltage at 4:00 PM, and close out their busy week on Sunday evening with a 6:00 PM match against the Rochester Rhinos at Centennial Park Stadium. Sunday’s match will be preceded by a 3:00 PM Lynx match against the 2006 PDL Champion Michigan Bucks. Fans purchasing a ticket for Saturday’s Lady Lynx match will receive a free ticket for the Sunday afternoon double-header. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Lynx ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 x 23 or at the Centennial Park Stadium box office 2 hours prior to kick-off on game days.
