ST. CATHARINES HAND SHOOTERS SECOND LOSS
Wednesday - August 15, 2007
Italia beaten 1-0

St. Catharines Wolves handed International Division leaders Italia Shooters their second defeat of the season in the only game played in the CSL Wednesday night, a 1-0 victory for the home side in a hard fought contest at Club Roma in St. Catharines.

Italia have suffered only one previous loss in the 16-game league and cup schedule played so far, a 3-2 defeat by North York Astros in an intense league encounter at Esther Shiner Stadium on June 17.

The game Wednesday night was no less intense as both sides fought to take a first half lead, but it was Wolves’ prolific goalscorer Anthony Stranges who struck an impressive goal at the 42nd minute mark when he collected a pass from defender Stepfen Kamendy to take the ball up the left wing, cut in to beat Shooters’ goalkeeper Camilo Benzi.

Following a 1-0 lead at halftime, Italia pressed to get back on equal terms in a chippy atmosphere that erupted into a physical clash involving players from both sides just before Referee Bottos blew his whistle during added time.

St. Catharines Wolves improve their league record to 5-4-5 for 20 points in the National Conference, while Italia Shooters remain on top of the International Division with a 9-2-3 record for 30 points.
