ITALIA SHOOTERS WIN 2-0 FRIDAY NIGHT
Friday - May 25, 2007

Portuguese blanked

A goal in each half gave 2006 CSL champions Italia Shooters a 2-0 victory over Portuguese Supra at Centennial Stadium in the only game played in the Canadian Soccer League Friday night.

Italia took the lead after 30 minutes on a strike by Geron Duporte for a 1-0 lead at halftime and five minutes into the second half Sean Myers made it 2-0 for the visitors.

Portuguese Supra missed an opportunity to take the lead on a penalty kick just three minutes into the game when defender Carlos Zaballos struck the post well out of reach and to Italia goalkeeper Camilo Benzi’s right. The spot kick was awarded following a foul inside the 18 yard line by Italia's Andre Stewart.

The same teams meet again on Sunday when Shooters return to The Soccer Centre in Vaughan with an unbeaten 2-0-1WLT record and not having conceded a goal in three games played.

Portuguese have a 1-1-1 record following their impressive 5-3 start to the season, defeating Windsor Border Stars in the opener, then they tied 2-2 with St. Catharines Wolves before losing tonight’s encounter.
