May 13, 2007 Sunday games' details (from CSL media release)
OPENERS AT TROIS-RIVIERES AND BIRCHMOUNT
Sunday - May 13, 2007
Scoreless Sunday
Two games played the first Sunday of a new season ended in scoreless ties in the Canadian Soccer League.
Toronto Croatia and Trois-Rivieres Attak failed to produce a goal in windy conditions at the University of Quebec Trois-Rivieres, while at Birchmount Stadium in Scarborough, Canadian Lions struck the woodwork twice but failed to find the net against visiting CSL champions Italia Shooters.
Attak, playing their inaugural game before a large attendance, lost midfielder Abrahim Baldeh at the 27th minute mark after being shown the red card, but fought throughout in a game that could have tipped either way. Top goalkeeping by Andrew Olivieri of Trois-Rivieres and George Azcurra of Croatia kept the teams off the scoresheet.
Goalkeepers Matthew Willis of Canadian Lions and Camilo Benzi of Italia gained the shutouts at Birchmount Stadium.
The CSL schedule resumes Friday when Attak visits Serbian White Eagles at Centennial Stadium, an 8 pm kickoff.
