All spots full for FC's open tryout

By DEAN McNULTY -- Toronto Sun

The list of professional soccer wannabes hit 1,000 yesterday as Toronto FC -- this city's new entry in Major League Soccer -- closed the books on accepting new recruits.

In just a little over two weeks after asking for applicants to apply to participate in an open tryout on Dec. 18, the club has been overwhelmed by demand to take part.

"The response from Ontario has been overwhelming, but in addition, Toronto FC has also attracted applicants from around the globe," team publicist Michelle Lissel said.

BRAZIL AND ENGLAND

"From Cruzeiro, Brazil and East Kilbride, England to Flin Flon, Man. -- players are anxious to get a look."

Although the registration is full, the team has set up a waiting list for hopefuls if any of those already admitted drop out.

"To sign up for the waiting list -- applicants must still go thru the registration process at torontofc.ca," Lissel said. "They will be contacted if a place becomes available."
