LYNX PLAY HOST TO MONTREAL AND PUERTO RICO

Toronto welcomes the first-place Impact on Wednesday and Islanders on Sunday

TUESDAY AUGUST 22, 2006[TORONTO, ON] The Toronto Lynx look to extend their 6-game home unbeaten streak this week as they host a pair of United Soccer Leagues First Division matches at Centennial Park Stadium. Wednesday evening sees the Lynx welcome the first-place Montreal Impact for the annual Coaches Appreciation Night at 7:30 PM, while Sunday evening sees the Puerto Rico Islanders make their only stop in Toronto this season for Fiesta Latina at 6:00 PM when the Lynx recognize and celebrate the growing Latin groups in our city.

Montreal comes into Wednesday’s match sitting alone atop the USL First Division table with 43 points, 4 points clear of Rochester in second place. The Impact, however, have been cold of late, losers of their past two matches and recording only one win in their past five matches. National Team goalkeeper Greg Sutton recently returned to the Impact line-up after missing an extended stretch due to injury leads the league in goals against average with a minuscule 0.55 GAA. Mauricio Salles leads the attack with 7 goals, but no other player has more than three goals, so goal-scoring has been at a premium for the team. The match is the third of four meetings between the two clubs, with Montreal having claimed a pair of 2-0 victories on June 11 in Toronto and July 11 in Montreal. The two clubs will meet on September 8 in Montreal to wrap up the season series.

As part of the Coaches Appreciation Night theme, soccer coaches get in free with advance group orders and the first 1,000 youths to pass through the gates will receive a baseball cap courtesy of Lynx equipment supplier Legea. Legea is also providing 100 soccer balls which will be given away throughout the match. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the box office two hours prior to the 7:30 PM kick-off.

The Islanders come into Centennial Park Stadium on Sunday afternoon in search of their first-ever win in Toronto. The Lynx sport a tidy 2-0-2 record at home against Puerto Rico, including a pair of ties during the 2005 season. Puerto Rico currently sits in seventh place in the USL-1 table, 1 point shy of the Seattle Sounders with one game in hand. The club is pushing hard to earn their first USL-1 playoff berth, and defeated the Lynx 2-1 on June 18 at home. Matt Palleschi scored the lone goal for the Lynx in the loss. Fans will be treated to vibrant performances from Latin groups throughout the match as part of the Fiesta Latina celebrations. Tickets for this match can be purchased through the Lynx ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 x 31 or at the box office two hours prior to kick-off.

TITUS ONCE AGAIN NAMED TO USL-1 TEAM OF THE WEEK

Defender Rick Titus was again named to the USL First Division Team of the Week on the heels of strong play in the home-and-home series this weekend with Rochester. The 37-year old veteran has earned the honour three times this season, and is only the third Lynx player to achieve that feat, joining Ali Gerba in '04 and Niki Budalic in '02.
