Match Summary:

The Toronto continued their streak of impressive results this evening, defeating the USL-1 defending champion Seattle Sounders 4-2 in front of 1366 fans at Centennial Park Stadium.

Tonight’s match was Toronto’s second in less than 24 hours, the first ending 0-0 against the Portland Timbers at Centennial last night. Toronto entered tonight’s match with a record of 3-1-2 in their last six matches.

Seattle got on the board first after only 5 minutes of play. Stephen Keel headed a Seattle free-kick into the air, and CJ Klaas headed it in as it came back down past Toronto goalkeeper Theo Zagar from 6 meters out.

Toronto was back on level terms in the 17th minute. David Diplacido’s impressive run down the left side ended with a low cross into Seattle’s box which found Kevin Jeffrey well placed to tap the ball into the bottom left of goal for the Trinidadian’s second goal in three games.

The Lynx took the lead 9 minutes later. Jamie Dodds sent in a through ball from the right side which found Mat Paleschi, who tucked the ball past Seattle ‘keeper Chris Eylander from the left side.

Seattle found an equaliser in first half injury time. Roger Levesque headed a long looping ball back across the face of goal which Cam Weaver tapped in from close range. Weaver’s goal was his 15th this season. Both teams were level with 2 goals each at the half.

Toronto had good chances to score in the 69th and 83rd minute, but both Diplacido’s and Neto’s efforts were just wide of Eylander’s goal.

Seattle came close to breaking the deadlock in the 76th minute when Stephen Keel headed a cross down towards goal, but his effort bounced off the ground and sailed just over the bar.

Toronto took the lead in the 85th minute. Jamie Dodds sent in a corner which Damian Pottinger headed forcefully into the bottom right of goal for his fourth strike this season.

Toronto sealed the win two minutes later when second half substitute Neto’s run down the centre of the park ended with the Brazilian dribbling past his marker before coolly slipping the ball past Eylander and into the bottom left corner. It was 4-2 to Toronto at the final whistle.

Toronto out-shot Seattle 17-7 through 90 minutes of play this evening. Pottinger’s goal was his 4th for Toronto this season, and now leads the Lynx scoring standings. Seattle striker Cam Weaver found the back of the net for the 15th time this season, and remains in first place of USL-1 goal scoring standings.

Tonight’s win improves Toronto’s record to 4-10-4 and moves them into 11th place of the USL First Division, the first time this season that the Lynx have managed to climb up the table. Toronto is now 4-1-2 in their last seven matches.

Toronto takes their fine form on the road next Friday when they travel to Atlanta to take on the Silverbacks at 7:30 PM at the Silverback’s newly constructed RMGA Stadium.
