2 min...TL Aristdemo cornerkick from right is headed down by defender but booted around in box with TL shots being blocked by defenders.
4 min...TL Jeffrey 20 yard roller after short cross is saved by sprawling goalie.
7 min...TL players long throw-in from right has ball headed around just inside edge of box.
8 min...PT Morale has ball knocked away on edge of box.
9 min...PT Thompson rides off TL Pottinger preventing shot and ball rolls for goal kick after TL Palleschi sends him through ball up middle.

Attendance was only about 350 on this very hot and humid evening. There were a few drops of rain which just succeeded in making the field slippery.

The game was pretty even in the first half with the Lynx holding a 5-4 advantage in shots but in the second half they pulled ahead 15-5 in shots as they dominated play.

The Lynx Kevin Jeffrey had a 20 yard roller after receiving a short cross but it was saved by sprawling goalie Josh Saunders at only 4 minutes. Timbers defender Scot Thompson had to be sharp to ride off TL Damien Pottinger and prevent him getting away a shot when he was pushed a through ball by Matthew Palleschi. Pottinger’s crossed from the right near the PT end line after beating two defenders and Palleschi leapt and got a foot to the ball bouncing a 6 yarder wide left. At 36 minutes, PT Yuri Morale on the left wing gets a 15 yard shot with TL goalie Richard Goddard making a great foot save at 5 yards and a defender clearing. At 42 minutes, Pottinger takes a long throw-in from the left that has Palleschi elude defenders and cut in a 20 yard blast that the goalie palmed over the net.

In the second half at 46 minutes, Robbie Aristodemo took a 25 yard freekick from the right and Palleschi charged in front of waiting TL forward and headed 12 yarder from right that goalie catches. That was trickier than it looked because the standing man wouldn’t have been able to get much power on the header if he’d have been able to play it. At 51 minutes Jeffrey rushed down the right and passed forward to Pottinger whose 10 yard shot was blocked by the goalie on right post, the rebound being crossed through the box but the Lynx players missed connecting. 57 minutes found Chris Williams crossing from the right after getting around a defender and TL David DiPlacido headed a 7 yarder that past goalie but retreating defender Scot Thompson was able to kick it off the line. Williams crossed from the right one minute later and Palleschi shot dribbled wide of left post from 6 yards. At 74 minutes Palleschi rushed on the right and rolled a cross that had a defender slip and Jeffrey blast an 8 yarder over the net. At 78 minutes, TL Goddard (goalie) leapt in a crowd of players in the box to punch out a 40 yard freekick sent in from the right by PT Mike Chabala. At 85 minutes, TL Ryan Anstey who’d only been on the field for three minutes had a low 10 yard shot from the left that the sprawling goalie stopped. Two minutes later Williams rushed on the right and pushed the ball forward that a defender thought was going to roll over the end line but Williams beat him to the ball and rushed along the end line getting away a 6 yard shot that the goalie was able to block and deflect for a cornerkick. Aristodemo then took the cornerkick from the right and TL defender Andres Arango who usually comes up to play these set pieces headed the ball just wide left from 8 yards. At 89 minutes PT Luke Kreamalmeyer’s cornerkick from the left had a PT player head an 8 yarder that the Lynx goalie caught. At 90 minutes, Osni Neto of the Lynx had an 8 yard shot over the net after a wild scramble in the PT box. In injury time Marko Bedenikovic of the Lynx had a low 12 yard shot through players in the box that was saved by the falling goalie.

Now I’ve mostly only highlighted the shots that were actually on target. Both teams were called offside quite often by referee’s assistants Isaac Raymond and Amato De Luca. Referee Arnar Bernhardsson all the way from Kelowna BC didn’t give out any cards this game.

The Lynx should have won this game but I have to remember this is a team that’s only scored 10 goals in the USL all season. Even on their results of the last six game hot streak, they’ve only scored 5 goals although they’ve managed 3 wins and now 2 ties. Chris Williams returned to the team after a brief tryout with a Norwegian team and Matthew Palleschi returned after trying out in Sweden. It’s good to have them back to provide some spark for the Lynx. Richard Goddard got the goaltending start for the Lynx. He rushed out to prevent some through balls but must have been spooked for being Red carded for handling a ball outside the box in an earlier game because he popped up a ball with his head when he charged forward instead of catching it although he was still inside his box. Both goalies deserved their shutouts.

Portland had played Thursday night in Virginia Beach where they lost 3-1 so that may have been one reason they were overwhelmed in the second half. They only had four subs and one of those was a goalie so there wasn’t much choice of who came in. This was only the second game of the season for both Timbers forward Yuri Morale and defender Mike Chabala. Chabala took most of the throw-ins in the Lynx end because he could throw balls into the box from 30 yards away.

The Lynx have another home game tomorrow at 6:00pm against Seattle Sounders who played Rochester on Friday night. I expected to see the Sounders coach scouting this game.

Accordian player Claudio Sanaluce was well received for a pregame performance on Multicultural Night. When he came back to play some more songs at halftime, some leather lunged guy yelled "Yeah...you're the best player out there!"
