Lynx make first of two trips to PAETEC Park tonight
Rochester, NY - July 20th, 2006
The Rochester Raging Rhinos and the Toronto Lynx played to a 1-1 tie tonight at PAETEC Park. The Lynx (3-10-3, 12 points) will again visit PAETEC Park to face the Rhinos (7-2-7, 28 points) on Friday, August 18th.
The Rhinos opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as Johnny Menyongar converted on a penalty kick to give the Rhinos the 1-0 lead. Lynx goalkeeper Theo Zagar committed the foul in the box as he rushed out to tackle an attacking Aaran Lines. The goal was Menyongar's second tally of the season and the Rhinos' first successful penalty kick this year.
The Rhinos had a second opportunity late in the second half as forward Connally Edozien broke free down the right side, forcing Zagar to step up and force a play. Edozien's pass through the box was cleared by a recovering Toronto defender, forcing the Rhinos to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Second half scoring chances by both clubs were few and far between. However, the Lynx managed to capitalize first, netting the equalizer. Toronto got on the board in the 70th minute on a rocket shot by Chris Williams from outside the box that was slightly redirected into the upper corner by the head of Kevin Jeffrey.
Goalkeeper Scott Vallow recorded eight saves on the night, but the ball that found the back of the net secured a point for Toronto in the USL First Division standings. Lynx goalkeeper Theo Zagar recorded three shutouts in the draw while facing 12 shots. The Lynx managed to outshoot the Rhinos 12-9 on the night.
Toronto is now 3-1-1 in its last five games. Rochester fails to gain on Montreal on the night that the Impact fell to the Minnesota Thunder 2-1.
