Toronto’s first win this season came this past Wednesday when they defeated the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1. Charleston came into tonight’s match after defeating the Rochester Raging Rhinos 2-1 last night.

Charleston came close to taking the lead in the 32nd minute when Luke Vercollone volleyed a cross towards goal, forcing Lynx goalkeeper Theo Zagar into a sprawling save.

Charleston again came close off of a corner ten minutes later. Lazo Alavanja headed the corner towards goal, but Zagar did well to save and stop Vercollone’s attempt off of the rebound..

It was 0-0 after the first 45 minutes in which Toronto out-shot Charleston 6-4.

Toronto came close to breaking the deadlock 4 minute after the restart. Damien Pottinger headed a cross toward goal that beat Charleston ‘keeper Keith Wiggins but came off the post, rolling along the goal line before being cleared.

Jamie Dodds broke the deadlock in the 74th minute. After Mat Paleschi hit the crossbar and Osni Neto attempted to scissor-kick the rebound, Dodds picked up the loose ball in Charleston’s area and slotted it past Wiggins.

Charleston came close to an equaliser four minutes later after a flurry of shots within Toronto’s area that were blocked by defender Rick Titus and ‘keeper Theo Zagar.

Toronto held on in the latter stages of the match and it was the Lynx who earned their second win this season at the final whistle. Toronto out-shot Charleston 16-9 through 90 minutes of play.

Toronto goalkeeper Theo Zagar made 6 stops en route to his shutout this evening. Jamie Dodds’ goal was his third of the season, leaving him tied for first with Damien Pottinger for most goals scored for the Lynx this season.

Tonight’s result was Toronto’s second win in a row and improves their record to 2-9-2, leaving them in 12th place of the USL First Division.

Toronto hopes to continue their winning streak when they hit the road to take on the Montreal Impact at Claude Robbilard Stadium on Tuesday July 11th at 7:30 PM.
