Match Summary:

The Toronto Lynx dropped a 2-1 result away to the Portland Timbers this evening at PGE Park. Brazilian midfielder Osni Neto found the back of the net in injury time to give Toronto their first goal of 2006’s campaign.

Toronto applied continued pressure to Portland’s goal throughout the first half, registering 5 shots and forcing Timbers goalkeeper Josh Saunders to make 4 saves. Newly acquired former Trinidad and Tobago international goalkeeper Richard Goddard made 2 stops for the Lynx in the first 45 minutes of play. It was 0-0 as both teams headed to the locker rooms at the half.

Portland opened scoring seven minutes into the second half. Midfielder Luke Kreamalmeyer connected with Oral Bullen’s pass and beat Lynx ‘keeper Goddard with his strike.

Portland doubled their lead nine minutes later. Bullen was involved again but this time playing the role of finisher and not provider. He connected with Mamba Chisoni’s pass and put his effort past Goddard to give Portland a 2-0 lead with half an hour to play.

Portland held out for much of the half but their defence was breached by second half substitute Osni Neto. The Brazilian’s solo effort in injury time earned Toronto their first goal this season and reduced Toronto’s deficit to one. Time ran out before Toronto could find an equaliser and it was 2-1 to Portland at the final whistle.

Tonight’s result leaves Toronto in 12th place of the USL First Division with a record of 0-5-0.

Toronto’s next match is Friday May 26th when they host Miami FC at Centennial Park Stadium for the Lynx’ annual School Day. The match gets underway at 11:00 AM.
