First Division Rhinos remain undefeated
Toronto, Canada - May 14th, 2006

The Rochester Raging Rhinos improved to 3-0-0 on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over the host Toronto Lynx in front of 2,129 fans at Centennial Park Stadium. Rochester was led by single goals by Matthew Delicāte and John Ball and a shutout performance by goalkeeper Scott Vallow. The Rhinos created multiple scoring chances early in the game, including a blast from 30 yards out by Charles Gbeke that narrowly missed the net in the seventh minute. Gbeke had a second opportunity in the 10th minute, but Lynx goalkeeper Theo Zagar made a diving save just inside the left post.

Rochester took advantage of their third scoring chance, coming in the 15th minute as Johnny Menyongar sent a ball wide down the right wing to an overlapping Frankie SanFilippo. SanFilippo crossed a pass high into the box that Matthew Delicāte headed inside the left post for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Delicāte's first as a Rhino.

Toronto nearly tied the game in the 30th minute as a centering pass turned a Rhinos defender around, opening the Lynx attacker to a one-on-one with Vallow. The diving save created a rebound opportunity in front, but defender Kenney Bertz stepped in to clear.

Major action came at the final whistle of the first half as chaos erupted in front of the Rhinos bench. Lynx forward Matt Paleschi received a red card for taking down Juninho DaSilva from behind. Zagar received a yellow card and Rhinos goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan received a red card in the near brawl that cleared both benches.

Taking a 1-0 lead into the half, the Rhinos showed tremendous composure during the end of the half excitement. The Rhinos struck again in the 66th minute as Ball netted his third goal of the young season. Menyongar registered the assist, settling the ball inside the box and slipping a pass wide to Ball. Zagar never had a chance as the ball deflected off the crossbar, giving the Rhinos a 2-0 lead.

Rochester had another golden opportunity slip by in the 82nd minute when forward Connally Edozien carried the ball deep into the box. Ball tried to punch home a loose ball from a tight angle, but Zagar dove back into position and covered the ball before Edozien could finish.

Vallow made two saves, facing 12 shots en route to his third shutout in as many games. Toronto is now 0-3-0 on the season.

The Rhinos hit the road on Wednesday, May 17th to face the Seattle Sounders. On Friday, May 19th, Rochester invades Vancouver to take on the Whitecaps. Both games will be broadcast live on Fickle 93.3-FM and webcast on www.ifickle.com. Broadcaster Don Stevens returns for his 11th season as the "Voice of the Rhinos."
