Match Summary:

The Toronto Lady Lynx played to a 1-1 draw away to the Laval Comets at Bais Bois-de-Boulogne Stadium this afternoon.

Toronto and Laval had already met once this season, with that match ending in a scoreless draw at Centennial Park Stadium on June 18th.

Toronto took the lead in the 13th minute after Natalie Martineau’s solo effort ended with her beating Laval goalkeeper Marie Bilodeau. Martineau’s goal was the difference after this first half in which Laval out-shot Toronto 10-4, forcing Toronto goalkeeper Anne Ogendele to make 3 saves.

Laval equalized in the 54th minute when Jennifer Slanzano fed the ball to Aimee Lesauh who beat Ogendele. Both sides exchanged scoring chances in the latter stages of the match, but the score line remained 1-1 at the final whistle. Laval out-shot Toronto 14-7 through 90 minutes of play.

Toronto was without key players in today’s match. Sylvia Forbes, who is tied for fourth in the W-League’s scoring race, sat out because of a shoulder injury. Amanda Cicchini, Vonya Beckles, and Loredana Riverso, were off for duty with the U-20 Canadian Women’s National team.

Today’s result leaves Toronto with a record of 6-1-3 tied for first with Ottawa in the W-League’s Eastern Conference – Northern Division. Toronto is now poised to qualify for the W-League playoffs for the second season in a row.

The Lady Lynx in next in action when they host the Sudbury Canadian on Saturday July 15th at 7:30 PM at Centennial Park Stadium.
