Match Summary:

The Toronto Lady Lynx restored their winning habits this evening, defeating the Rochester Rhinos 3-0 at the brand new PAETEC Park in Rochester.

This evening’s victory came two days after the Lady Lynx’ suffered first loss of the season: a 2-1 result away to the Ottawa Fury.

Toronto took the lead in the 15th minute when Alysha Chapman picked up Ann Annand’s pass and slipped the ball past Rochester goalkeeper Maggie O’Neill. Chapman’s goal was the difference between both clubs after the first 45 minutes of play.

Toronto started the second half with great intensity and were rewarded for their efforts eight minutes after the restart. O’Neill made a stop off a of a Toronto shot, but could not hold on to the rebound. Deana Everett was well positioned to tap in the rebound for her ninth goal of the season.

Toronto made it 3-0 four minutes later. Chapman sent in a ball that Sylvia Forbes controlled before chipping over an onrushing O’Neill. Forbes’ goal was her tenth this season.

Rochester thought they had pulled one back minutes later, but celebrations were short lived after their goal was ruled to be offside. This proved to be the end of scoring at PAETEC Park at it was 3-0 to visiting Toronto at the final whistle.

Both Sylvia Forbes and Deana Everett picked up goals towards their run on the W-League scoring race. Forbes now has 10 and is tied for fourth place overall while Everett has 9 and is tied for fifth.

Alysha Chapman picked up a goal and an assist in this afternoon’s match.

Toronto improves to 6-1-1 as a result of today’s win and places them in 2nd place of the W-League’s Eastern Conference – Northern Division.

The Toronto Lady Lynx are next in action on Saturday July 8th when they travel to Vermont to take on the Lady Voltage at 5:30 PM.

Notes: Toronto and Rochester had already played once this season. That match ended in a 7-0 victory for the Lady Lynx in Toronto on May 13th.
