NATIONAL TEAM DEFENDER SIGNS WITH LADY LYNX

Two Games Each for Lynx and Lady Lynx This Week

TUESDAY JUNE 13, 2006[TORONTO, ON] The Toronto Lady Lynx announced today the signing of Canadian National Women’s Team defender Tanya Dennis. The Brampton native just completed her senior season at the University of Nebraska, having led the Cornhuskers to the second round of the 2005 NCAA tournament, where they lost to Christine Sinclair’s Portland University squad, the eventual champions.

Dennis has earned 13 caps with the Women’s National Team since making her debut with the team in August, 2003. She started the first five games of the 2003 World Cup for the Canadians before suffering a concussion which kept her out of the bronze medal match against the Americans. The U.S. went on to win that match 3-1. She also competed for Canada in the 2004 U19 World Cup, where Canada was defeated by China in the quarterfinals. The versatile defender can also play midfield and forward, and is expected to make her debut for the Lady Lynx tomorrow afternoon in Hamilton against the Lady Avalanche.

LADY LYNX OFF TO HAMILTON & HOST LAVAL

The first place Lady Lynx head down the QEW tomorrow morning for a matinee match against the Hamilton Lady Avalanche. The match is scheduled to kick off at 12:00 PM at Brian Timmis stadium and will be the second match of the season between the two clubs. Toronto edged Hamilton 4-0 on May 31 at Centennial Park Stadium, on the strength of two goals by star striker Sylvia Forbes. Hamilton currently sits in fourth place in the Northern Division with a 2-3-0 record.

On Sunday, the expansion Laval Comets make their first visit to Toronto for 4:00 PM match at Centennial Park Stadium on Women In Sports Day. Laval will be playing their second match in two days, after a stopover in Sudbury on Saturday afternoon against the Canadians. The undefeated Comets sit tied with Ottawa in second place in the Northern Division with 9 points from three matches, 3 points behind Toronto. LYNX HEAD SOUTH TO MIAMI AND PUERTO RICO

The Lynx USL First Division team head on a two-match road trip, commencing on Thursday when they tackle Miami FC, and continuing on Sunday evening with a game against the Puerto Rico Islanders. The Lynx hope to avenge a 1-nil home defeat against the Romario-led Miami squad and earn their first win of the season when the two clubs take the field at 7:30 PM on June 15 at Tropical Park Stadium. The Brazilian legend Romario had been on a torrid scoring pace in his first USL-1 season, notching a league-leading 5 goals in only 8 matches, including a scintillating strike against the Lynx in their victory on May 26 at Centennial Park Stadium. The surprising first-year club currently sit in a sixth-place tie with Virginia Beach, having earned 13 points to date for a 3-3-4 record.

The Lynx will then take to the air and travel to Bayamon, Puerto Rico for their first encounter of the season with the Puerto Rico Islanders at 5:00 PM at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium. Puerto Rico currently sits tied for fourth in the USL-1 table with 14 points and a 4-3-2 record. The match will be the second in three days for the hosts as they are set to host Seattle on Friday evening. Josh “Caleb” Norkus leads the Islander attack with 3 goals, and keeper Dan Kennedy is strong between the posts, allowing less than a goal a game through the first 9 matches.
