Four from Forbes Gives Toronto Second Win

Match Summary:

The Toronto Lady Lynx recorded their second straight win of the season defeating the Vermont Lady Voltage by a score of 4-0 this afternoon. 782 fans braved the rain and cold wind to watch Sylvia Forbes score four and lead the Lady Lynx to victory this at Centennial Park Stadium this afternoon.

Toronto came close to opening the scoring in the 26th minute after Toronto was awarded a free kick from 20 yards out. Catherine Marroszeky’s strike was on target but Vermont goalkeeper Kristin Luckenbill did well to tip her powerful strike over the bar.

It was 0-0 at the end of the first half of play. Both teams were hindered by strong winds, rain and even snow at times during the first 45 minutes of play.

Toronto took the lead early into the second half. Robin Rushton’s run down the right side of the field ended with a low centering pass that found unmarked striker Sylvia Forbes in front of goal. She tapped in from close range to give the Lady Lynx a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute.

Toronto made it 2-0 in the 77th minute. Sylvia Forbes picked up a loose ball after a scramble in the box and curled the ball into the bottom left of Luckenbill’s goal.

Forbes earned a hat-trick and made it 3-0 two minutes later after she slotted home Loredana Riverso’s cross from the right.

It was 4-0 to Toronto through Forbes’ fourth goal of the game. She tapped in from close range after Allysha Chapman’s centering pass from the left flank. It was 4-0 to Toronto after 90 minutes.

Toronto goalkeeper Anne Ogundele faced four shots and made one stop to earn her shutout this evening. Sylvia Forbes found the back of the net four times through 90 minutes of play. Toronto recorded 19 shots in tonight’s match.

Today’s result leaves the Lady Lynx on top of the W-League’s Eastern Conference – Northern Division with a record of 2-0-0. Toronto has accumulated a total of 11 goals and conceded zero in their two matches this season.

The Lady Lynx are next in action against the Hamilton Lady Avalanche on May 31st at Centennial Park Stadium at 11:00 AM.
