SUNDAY CSL ACTION
Sunday - June 18, 2006
Astros blank Stallions

North York Astros blanked Brampton Stallions 3-0 at Esther Shiner Stadium Sunday night to move within two points of National Divisions leaders Oakville Blue Devils who managed just a scoreless tie against visiting Laval Dynamites at Bronte Stadium in CSL action earlier in the day.

In one other game played on Sunday, Toronto Croatia edged Italia Shooters 2-1 at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan to move into a first place tie with Serbian White Eagles.

Astros looked impressive in their second defeat of the Stallions following the 4-1 victory at Victoria Park in Brampton on June 11. Midfielder Vitaliy Mishchenko opened the scoring for the home side at 41 minutes for a 1-0 lead at the interval and at the 54th minute mark Eugene Ishchak headed the second goal from a free kick. Peter Zorbas drove home his third of the season following a run on the Brampton goal at the 63rd minute mark.

Oakville Blue Devils maintained their lead at the top of the National Division following their scoreless tie at Bronte Stadium on Sunday afternoon. It was a goalkeepers dual for the most part with Sabrahima Traore looking solid in the Blue Devils’ goal and Angelo Olivieri, the busier of the two, looking impressive for Laval.

Italia Shooters are still looking for their first win following a 2-1 home defeat in the hands of Toronto Croatia at The Soccer Centre. Caswain Mason put Croatia in front at the 26th minute mark and midfielder Desmond Humphrey tied the score for Italia on a free kick from just outside the penalty box just on half time. With just four minutes to go, Zvjezdan Kresic struck the winner for Toronto Croatia, a drive from 20 yards that entered the net off the post.
