Astros bounce back

North York Astros bounced back from two defeats in five days with an impressive 4-1 victory over Brampton Stallions at Victoria Park in Brampton, one of four games played in the Canadian Soccer League Sunday.

Oakville Blue Devils also made amends with a 2-0 shutout of Laval Dynamites following a loss to the Quebec team 24 hours earlier in a two-game back-to-back series at the Bois-de-Boulogne Stadium at Laval, and Italia Shooters gained their first win in the International Division, a 2-1 squeaker over Caribbean Selects at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

In one other CSL Game Sunday, Toronto Croatia fought back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to tie Toronto Supra Portuguese 2-2 at Brockton Stadium in Toronto’s west end.

Hugo Herrera opened the scoring for the Stallions at Victoria Park, the goal coming at the 12th minute mark, but five minutes later midfielder Peter Zorbas started the North York four-goal comeback. Forward Eugene Ishchak put the Astros into the lead at 25 minutes and Keon Cordice struck two goals at 62 and 78 minutes for the 4-1 win.

North York Astros were heavily defeated 6-2 by London City on June 4 and suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat in the hand of Serbian White Eagles on Friday.

Brampton’s Oneil Sang was ejected on receiving a second yellow card.

Petro Czoli opened the scoring at 15 minutes for the Blue Devils at the Bois-de-Boulogne Stadium in Laval and Judah Hernandez made it 2-0 at 92 minutes for the 2-0 Oakville win. Les Dynamites defeated the Sun Devils 3-1 in the first game on Saturday.

Italia Shooters scored two quick goals following a scoreless first half at The Soccer Centre when Frank Bruno found the net at the 52nd minute mark and Rob Black five minutes later against Caribbean Selects in an all-International Division encounter. Maxime Dorneval scored the lone Caribbean goal at 81 minutes.

Toronto Croatia added to their win on Friday night with a strong second half against Toronto Supra Portuguese in a game that ended 2-2 at Brockton Stadium. Supra Portuguese took a 2-0 lead at the interval on goals by Selmir Sehic at 15 minutes and Urlem Castro at the 59th minute mark but Croatia responded with two second half goals by Peter Curic at 83 minutes and Hayden Fitzwilliams three minutes later.
