NO CHANGE IN THE PLAYOFF PICTURE

Supra catching up

A 4-1 victory by Toronto Supra Portuguese over Windsor Border Stars at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan Wednesday night improved the Toronto west-end team’s chances of gaining a playoff berth, but there was no change in the playoff picture as a whole with only five of the eight teams to qualify having been decided.

These are Oakville Blue Devils and Laval Dynamites in the National Conference and Serbian White Eagles, Toronto Croatia and Italia Shooters in the international loop. The top three teams in each conference gain an automatic berth into the playoffs, with the remaining two spots being the next two teams with the best overall standing, irrespective of the division in which they play.

The CSL regular season schedule will end at the end of September, with the eight teams moving to the playoffs during the first weekend of October.

It took a defender to open the scoring when Gianni Annisi found the net for Supra Portuguese at the 28th minutes mark and this was followed by a second Supra Portuguese goal struck by Uarlem Castro at 44 minutes, his 12th goal of the season.

Samuel Afriyie increased Supra’s lead to 3-0 at the 50th minute mark and midfielder Alex Rafael scored at fourth at 70 minutes. Erin Byrd scored the lone Border Stars’ goal at 78 minutes.

Toronto Supra Portuguese have now played 19 games with a 5-7-7 WLT record for 22 points and Supra is competing with three National Conference teams for one of the two available berths that are not automatic. Border Stars are one of these teams with a 7-7-6 record for 27 points following Wednesday’s game.
