CROATIA, SUPRA PORTUGUESE WIN FRIDAY
Friday - September 15, 2006
Supra in playoff hunt

Toronto Croatia stayed within range of International Division leaders Serbian White Eagles with a 1-0 win over London City at Memorial Park in Streetsville and Toronto Supra Portuguese sprung to life with a well-deserved and much needed 3-0 victory over National Division leaders Oakville Blue Devils, the only games in the Canadian Soccer League Friday.

Toronto Croatia were back in action following their 3-1 loss to Serbian White Eagles in Hamilton on Monday and the win over London was a crucial one if the Mississauga-based Croatia are to make a bid for the International Division title. Both Serbian White Eagles and Toronto Croatia are assured of a playoff berth, but the teams are also anxious to secure the most desirable playoff position with an eye on easy passage in the opening playoff quarter-final round.

Midfielder Hayden Fitzwilliams scored the lone goal from the penalty spot following foul inside the 18 yard line at the 36 minute mark. Croatia improves to a12-2-5 WLT record for 41 points, while London City are at 3-11-6 for 15 points.

Toronto Supra Portuguese took charge at Brockton Stadium to shutout the Blue Devils, with Uarlem Castro continuing to impress. He did it this time with two goals, the first at 23 minutes and his second and Supra’s third at 89 minutes, while Semir Senic struck Supra’s second goal at the 79th minute mark.

Oakville Blue Devils lost two players in the second half when Matthew O’Connor picked up a second yellow card at 74 minutes and Orlin Chambers also received a second caution, then a red at the 90th minute.

The Blue Devils lead in the National Division becomes more precarious with a 8-6-6 record for 30 points (Laval Dynamites have 29), while Supra Portuguese improve their playoff hopes with an improving 4-6-7 record for 19 points.
