TOURISTS GET ANOTHER VICTORY!
Clyde won their second and final match of their Canadian tour against CPSL All Stars in Toronto on Sunday. Dougie Imrie and Stephen O'Donnell were the scorers in a 2-1 victory.
In the first game against Canadian opposition, Clyde defeated the CPSL’s Windsor Border Stars 1-0 at the University of Windsor Stadium on Friday night, a game won with a penalty kick just four minutes from time.
It was also a penalty kick that decided Sunday’s encounter when, with the teams tied 1-1 at 55 minutes, All Star defender Antonijo Zupan was caught tugging at the shirt of his marker and referee Steve De Piero pointed to the spot. This allowed Clyde forward Stephen O’Donnell to stroke the ball into the net.

The CPSL All Stars had opened the scoring for an early 1-0 lead after just six minutes when Sasa Viciknez took a pass from Peter Curic to find the net, but that was cancelled out by Clyde forward Douglas Imrie who, at the 18 minute mark headed the ball out of reach of All Star goalkeeper George Azcurra to tie the score 1-1.
Clyde came close on several occasions to add to their score, with the most spectacular effort coming from a solo run by midfielder Kevin Bradley who struck the crossbar at the 82nd minute mark when the ball was heading for the corner of the net.
Neil McGregor showed a welcome return to first team action and was solid at the back for the Bully Wee, while All Stars’ captain Antonijo Zupan played well at the back. Forward Judah Hernandez proved a handful for the Clyde defenders in the second half.
Clyde assistant manager Joe Miller said he thought the Canadian league has a good future if they play this way and keep going in this direction. “There are a lot a quality players here and when you realise we are coming off our season fit and they are just moving into their games, they played very well,” he said.

Dick Howard, a former Canadian international goalkeeper and now a member of the FIFA Technical and Development Committee summed up today’s game saying the Canadians gave a very good account of themselves. “They were up against a fit, seasoned Clyde team and the play was very competitive for exhibition soccer, so while they did not win the game they looked very good,” he said.
